This is my first videoblog ever created. It features my boyfriend and his cousin in Brooklyn, trying to do the latest hip-hop dances, a few drawings and tags that I liked which my boyfriend drew on the walls in the basement and pics of artist in the room. Its simple yet I like it so much. I also tried to recreate hip-hop, only in the hood cliches, such as talking to your friends out the window, even when you live on the third floor. So I hope you all enjoy.

1.Who sent this message? The musician, who is a violinist and the DJ
What is the message that commenters think is being conveyed? Many commenters may think that he is showing how hip-hop can be done with a instrument that is predominently known for classical music. That the messenger is thinking outside the box and that hip-hop is not just rapping, or beatboxing, etc.
2.What technologies are used to attract viewers attention? They use of the violin, which is not widely known to be used for hip-hop and also the turntables and Dj. Its like a juxtaposition, using those two together.
Who is the user audience based on the comments? People who considered themselves real hip-hop lovers and also individuals who played instruments. Also alot of people were young under the age of 30, and alot were American.
3.How are other users understanding this message different than you? Quote 1-2 specific examples and attribute user name and location. All the comments liked his performance, which is definitely a good thing. The only thing I may disagree with is when Jakieberre from the US, stated that 1:50ish is awesome. In my opinion 2:20ish is awesome and the best part of the song
4.What values/lifestyles are represented in or omitted from this video and how? The girls shaking what there Momma gave them, jewelry, cars, etc. These are omitted from the video and has nothing to do with it. I like that alot because in my opinion this vidoe is true hip-hop
5.How does this video convey ideals or aspects of hip-hop that you have been reading about in this class? It just shows how far hip-hop has come. The turntable are still a great asset to hip-hop, you can make hip-hop by expressing yourself and being true to the game. You don't need glitz and glamour.

Assignment No. 7
Sort the data by 2 different variables and tell what you discover in that comparison. For instance, what do you notice about comparing and contrasting the view counts vs. the comments; or the channel views / subscribers and the channel/user; or the date added and the category? Let your readers know which columns you chose to compare and contrast and why?
I sorted the Hip-Hop Database by two different variables. Theses variables were the ratings and the duration. Before I actually sorted out the data, I assumed that the videos with the shortest duration would have the highest ratings. I figured this because more people are likely to watch the entire video as opposed to watchin a video that was extremely long. However, this was not the case. I found that overall the longer videos had the most ratings. I found this to be surprising which is why I chose to compare and contrast those two variables.
Can you figure out the system I used to enter the data on the tags? You may have to visit a few of the videos to compare the entries in the database to the actual tags. This will assist you in thinking about context rather than content.
From what I saw in the database, the system you used to enter the data on the tags is if its music video or a video about a specific group or artist you would tag it as there name. For example the video Ghostface- The World According to Pretty Toney is tagged as Ghostface Killa Wu. Thats the artist's name and the group he belongs to. Also videos that are not specifically about an artist are tagged as Hip Hop. I also noticed however, that some videos which are specifically about an artist is tagged both ways. Kanye West's love lockdown is tagged as Kanye and hip-hop. So that's what I observed.
The History of YouTube : YouTube is a video sharing website where users can upload, view and share video clips. YouTube was created in February 2005 by three former PayPal employees. In January 2008 alone, nearly 79 million users had made over 3 billion video views and over 13 hours of video are uploaded every minute.
Given that YouTube only began in Feb 2005, what can you say about the earliest hiphop videos currently on our database? What does it say about the kind of hip-hop on YouTube in the early years and what categories of hip-hop were present?
Well one of the earliest hip-hop videos currently in the database is actually one that I chosed. The video is Nas-If I Ruled the World. This is one of my all time favorite songs. I also feel as though there is a wide range of hip-hop videos that were posted earlier. There were old skool videos, a hip-hop dance competition, and hip-hop and chinese video. So early one on youtube, there was a mass appeal of hip-hop and it was also world-wide since the early stages of youtube. I feel that now the only change is that youtube has helped caused hip-hop to spread even more in places you would never imagine.

Chapter 2- "The Score" Reaction
I really enjoyed reading chapter 2 "The Score". Jelani Cobbs expresses many ideas. Many of today's rappers have mc's from previous generations who inspire them. During Melle Mel and Kool Moe Dee's times they didn't have people to look up to. All they had were "a pen, pad, and idea". This shows how creative Hip-Hop is and proves that Hip-Hop is not just sampling from each other. He also talks about the Golden Era of Hip-Hop. Groups such as Run DMC were changing the aspects of Hip-Hop. They didn't dress in outrageous uniforms and didn't have an extremely large group. It was just two MC's and one DJ dressed in all black rocking adidas and fedoras. During this time many MC's flourished such as De La Soul, Big Daddy Kane, LL Cool J, 2 Live Crew, Ice Cube, and more. Each had their own individual and unique sound. Hip-Hop was becoming more about individuality. During this period female artists were becoming more prevalent and influential. I recall my mother informing me about Roxzanne Shante's infamous song "Roxzanne's Revenge". I was shocked to find out that she was actually sued for using UTFO's same beat. I also agree with Jelani Cobb in regards to the lyrical skills of MC Lyte. She is definitely a beast and Antoinette should have known better. I also had no idea that some old skool artists did not write their own rhymes. For example the group Salt 'N Pepper had a lyricist. What's up with that?

Response to Jelani Cobb Reading
I really enjoyed the reading assignment. The first chapter was interesting and Jelani Cobb's writing styling is very descriptive and easy to understand. He referred to the Middle Passage and how we as people no longer were able to speak in our so-called "foreign language". How we had to learn to communicate with the Colonials in order to take orders from them. He also talks about how Rock'n Roll came from the ghettos and was a term Blacks used to refer to sex. Yet Rock'n Roll gets more respect even though Hip-Hop came from the streets as well just up north. I liked how he also compared the MC to a Preacher. I do agree that MC's are the secular preachers of today and that preachers were the first Black artist. During the times of slavery, Preachers were highly-looked upon and gave many Blacks hope and courage. Although many of the preachers were uneducated, they were still able to articulate messages for their audience and present it in an inspiring and uplifting way. I also enjoyed how he referred to many numerous artist, videos, and albums, so that the reader can get a better understanding. For example, he referred to a track on DMX's album which is a prayer. Yet DMX is so hood and street. I really enjoyed reading this chapter.

Camera Eyes and Paperless Books- How technology is changing the world
While studying for my final exam on Monday, I came across a few interesting articles. I was very intrigued about how technological advances are being used to help people within our society. The first article I read, written by Leslie Fink, was one of my favorites. With much research, scientists have developed a new 256-pixel electronic-eye camera, which has the same size, shape and layout as a human eye. This is definitely beneficial to the 10 million blind and visual impaired individuals in America. This new development may lead the way toward the first bio-electronic prosthetic eyeball. The mesh that is covering the device allows the sensor array to withstand up to 40 percent stretching, bending and twisting, which is like folding a digital camera nearly in half. This is certainly a large improvement and radical departure from the hard, flat silicon sensing wafers now used in digital cameras and other imaging devices.
Another article I found interesting was one that revealed how scientists developed a way to create paperless books. The company, Sony has created an electronic version of ink, currently used in the E-Reader, that enables thousands of books to be carried around in one portable, energy-efficient case. The E-Ink technology is reflective, so it uses almost no power and the display provides a natural reading experience with no backlight. Even large displays will use a minimum amount of electricity. Scientists are also working on ways to use E-Ink on credit cards that won't break when they are bent, fresh food shelf labels where the price can change throughout the day, on signs along the highway, and in watches and cell phone displays.

My View on Social Networking
To all of my readers, I know I haven't posted in a while but I have been very busy. Juggling school, (I also am taking intro to macro economic), work, and me time isn't easy. So I just want to comment about my participation in social networking sites. I can honestly say that I have been affilitated with Myspace, Facebook, Ebay, Youtube, and Craigslist. So now you know my favorite social networking sites. Now I must admit that I just recently closed my account with Myspace. In my opinion, its so overrated and unsafe. Everybody and their mother is on Myspace and I can't take it anymore. I'm so sick of seeing half naked girls sending their picture to my boyfriends page and sick of random strangers trying to friend me. So I made my boyfriend delete his and I deleted mines. I'm done with Myspace. On a lighter note, I still maintain my facebook account. I like Facebook more. I basically just keep up with old friends and classmates. I use ebay to to check out gadgets and things of that nature. Currently I am searching for a Ninetendo Wii and the yoga board. On ebay I have seen a pack that comes with both for about $250, which is pretty cheap. I know that alot of fake things are sold on Ebay, but i have purchased a digital camera and it looks and works excellent. On youtube, I watch all the lastest videos that people crave about. I have not loaded any videos of myself, but if I did I know it would be the talk of the town. I also watch old school videos that are no longer on television. I also just watched the Miley Cyrus and Selena Gomez fued. I haven't been on craigslist in a long time, but when I do go itd usually when I am in search for a job. There sources are very reliable and I actually did go on many interviews based on the website's references.

Topic: About Blogging Review
I really did enjoy reading the articles on blogging, although some where long. I especially liked Celebrity Blogs: The Impact of New Media by Melissa Gerry. This article proves and supports the fact that blogging has become influential in all aspects. Not just in sports or politics, but also in celebrity gossip. Sites such a PerezHilton.com and trent.blogspot.com are giving gossip news shows and magazines a run for their money. I often visit these two websites and agree with the article that these blogs are a key role in providing information to the public. Not only do they have a large amount of news before the magazines, but they are free. I can't imagine wasting $3.99 on People magazine. The Power and Politics of Blogs by Henry Farrell and Daniel W. Drezner is an article that raises the question about weblogs influence on the public in regards to politics. According to this article, even though the number of blogs created is steadily growing, blogs that are geered toward political information attract a small number of readers and do not compare to other media outlets such as the radio and television. I personally disagree, but still liked the article because it was very imformative and was from an opposing stance. I also like the fact that there were charts and graphs to support its statements. Another article that I enjoyed reading was How Can We Measure the Influence of the Blogosphere by Kathy E. Gill. This article illustrates how blogs are very influential in regards to the mass media and public opinion. There are all kinds of blogs geered towards various interest. Most of the bloggers are amatuers, like myself. Anyone can become a blogger. All you need is the passion to do it. Also this articles demonstrates the effects of mass media and politics. It was interesting to find out that after the events of 9/11 there was an extremely large growth in blogs. In regards to measuring blogs, this article points out that blogs are ranked based on how influential it is, how often it is visited. You can go to websites such as technorati.com and blogrunner.com, that watch some 2 million blogs and 250 million links and see how your blog stacks up.

The world of advertising and social marketing is evolving rapidly; stay on top of it.
This is interesting READ IT!!!!!!
The viral side of music videos just got a bit more so with the advent of SplashCast, a social network gaining traction among the major labels.
SplashCast provides a movable window of a performer’s video with a template to enable messaging. Users can transfer their favorites to a MySpace page and share them. They can post videos, pictures or comments and chat with other users.
The service will soon allow insertion of its advertising into the video streams, thanks to HotSpot technology.
In a nod to the popularity of urban music, SplashCast is setting up a site for an established rap star it declined to identify, and expects he’ll be one among many.
“To date we’ve worked with labels,” says SplashCast CEO Michael Berkley. “Now we’re working with artists themselves, particularly in the urban category.”
The urban music channels created by SplashCast get the most viral distribution. The typical user is a tech-savvy African American ranging in age from 14 to 19. Females are in the majority.
SplashCast already has distribution deals in place with Sony BMG, Universal, EMI, Geffen, Warner Bros., MTV, NPR and PBS.
“It’s all about connecting our conversation,” says David Bell, director of digital marketing for Sony BMG’s Zomba label. “It’s about creating new communities, creating communities of our own.”
Bell says songs usually are a bigger draw than artists. But Chris Brown’s is the most popular of the 40 SplashCast channels featured on Sony BMG’s site. Roughly 40,000 users added it to their MySpace or Facebook pages within a month of its posting. It eventually was embedded in more than 75,000 pages.
Visitors “gobble up immediately” any news about stars like Brown, Bell notes, adding that urban music is the subject of a “huge number” of blogs. He says Zomba hopes to build content sites in collaboration with brands.
SplashCast plans a reality series on its “mystery” hip-hopper’s site.
“Once it’s out there on tens or hundreds of thousands of MySpace pages, the fans will be able to influence the reality show,” Berkley says. “It’s enabling artists to create content in a very efficient, cost-effective manner so they can essentially have a videographer follow them around, create this in real time and edit it.”
